ESP(Employability Skills Preparation) is a pre-tech program for 8th and 9th grade students who are accepted through a referral and application process.
ESP is under the Maine State CTE title of Diversified Occupations programming. The focus is on employability skills. Academic topics include Professional Attributes, Career Preparation, Critical and Creative Thinking, Communications, and Safety. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills through classroom participation, woodworking, hiking and trail work, small greenhouse exploration, and other areas. Students will also have opportunities to explore other programs within the building. Students are expected to participate in all subject areas introduced, including math and writing assignments throughout the year. 9th grade students will have the opportunity to work in the community on job sites. 9th grade students can receive credits in math, physical education, and fine arts.
Students will also have the opportunity to earn the Passport to Tools thru Woodwork Career Alliance which will be beneficial for those interested in pursuing a career in building construction and woodworking.
