The term geometry is derived from two Greek words that mean “to measure the Earth.” The great irony is that the most basic building block in geometry, the point, has no measurement at all. Students must accept that a point exists in order to have lines and planes, because lines and planes are made up of an infinite number of points.
In this course, students will learn to use the properties of shapes and sizes along with Logical Reasoning skills to solve real-world problems.
Teaching methods used in this course include direct instruction and coaching in small groups, online skills development (in class and outside of class), and hands-on learning. Assessment methods include workbook exercises, traditional quizzes and testing, and proficiency rubrics linked to online skills measurements.
Resources used in this course include workbooks published by Learning Express, an online skills development platform called IXL, graphing calculators and mathematical manipulatives.
Requirements
Prerequisites include:
- Successful completion of Pre-Algebra
- Approval from school guidance counselor
- Access to the internet for skills development outside the classroom
